Open your character in Blockbench

Last updated: 8 August 2026

Blockbench is a free program for making blocky models. It is lighter and less scary than Blender. It needs one small free add-on before it can open your character. That takes about thirty seconds, and you only ever do it once.

Blockbench cannot open your file on its own yet. If you look for your file type in a fresh copy of Blockbench, you will not find it.

Your file is fine. The button is not there until you add it. Step 2 below adds it.

Add the button, then open your character

  1. Make a character and save it

Go to the Brainrot Generator and press GENERATE until you get a character you like. It is free and there is nothing to sign up for.

Then open the Share tab and press Download .glb. Your computer saves one file, ending in .glb.

  2. Open the add-ons list

In Blockbench, click File ▸ Plugins….

A window opens. Click the tab called Available.

  3. Install the glTF Importer

Type glTF in the search box. Find glTF Importer and install it.

It is free. It comes from Blockbench's own official list, so you are not downloading it from a stranger.

  4. Open your character

A new glTF option now appears under File ▸ Import. Click it and pick the .glb file you saved in step 1.

What the add-on can and cannot do

Worth knowing before you start, so nothing surprises you:

The shapesYes — they come through
The colours and patternsYes
The separate body partsYes — they stay separate
Movement that was saved inYes
SkeletonsNo

That last one sounds bad but costs you nothing here. Your character does not have a skeleton to lose. It moves by turning whole body parts instead, and those come through fine.

One thing to know if you make Minecraft models. Your character arrives as a general 3D model, not as Minecraft-style blocks.

That is perfect for looking at it, colouring it in, and making pictures of it. But if you want an actual Minecraft model, use your character as something to copy from, and build the Minecraft version yourself. Blockbench does not turn one into the other with a button.

Is Blockbench the right choice for you?

It depends what you want to do:

Notes

What the add-on supports comes from its own official documentation in the Blockbench plugin list. Menu names change a little between versions of Blockbench. If something here is not word for word what you see, the right button will be close by in the same menu.
